Not all types are available in all materials and finishes. Unplated and uncoated steel bolts-referred to as plain finish-may also be available and are susceptible to rust. Stainless steel, though, is a better choice when corrosion is of concern. Hot dip galvanized is a thick coating of zinc that protects against corrosion in harsh environments. Zinc, the most popular and least expensive commercial plating, offers moderate corrosion resistance. Shoulder bolts and some hex bolts are available from domestic and/or Canadian manufacturers.Ĭommon finishes for steel are zinc plating and hot dip galvanizing. Steel remains the least costly material followed by stainless steel the copper alloys (such as brass and silicon bronze) are the most expensive. Never replace a graded bolt with a lower grade or lower strength-do not substitute a stainless steel or silicon bronze bolt for a Grade 5 or 8 bolt, or a brass bolt for a Grade 2, 5 or 8 bolt.Ĭommon materials include steel (unplated and plated-see more about finishes below), stainless steel, brass, silicon bronze, and nylon. Some bolts are not available in different strength grades while certain steel types are offered in SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Grade 2, 5 or 8 head markings identify grade. Head styles include cylindrical, flat countersunk, hex, round and square. It is also recommended that threads not be in the shear plane(s).ĭrive styles for externally wrenched bolts include 12 point, hex and square for internally wrenched, slotted and hex socket are typical. More exposed threads within the grip (the area between the head and nut) will result in a "springier" bolt. Conversely, there should be two full threads exposed on the head side of the nut to make sure the nut can be properly tightened. ![]() The bolt should be long enough to allow at least two full threads to extend beyond the nut face after tightening, which ensures full thread engagement with the nut. The size and length of inch series fasteners is specified in inches, usually fractional rather than decimal. Lengths can be as short as 3/8", again for stove bolts, but are usually between about 1/2" and 24". While stove bolts can be as small as 1/8" in diameter, expect typical bolt sizes to be between about #10 (3/16") and 1 3/4". Size refers to nominal diameter of the bolt while length is just that-how long the bolt is. "The point of a fastener is the configuration of the end of the shank of a headed fastener or of each end of a headless fastener." Point style varies by bolt type and some types are not pointed, such as carriage bolts. Unless noted otherwise, right-hand threads are standard, so turn the bolt (or nut) clockwise to tighten. Some types, though, are always fully threaded and others are always partially threaded. Short lengths are often fully threaded, longer lengths are partially threaded. Also, smaller sizes have more threads per inch than larger sizes-see Table 2 for a comparison between UNC and UNF threads per inch by bolt size. Consequently, the larger the number of threads per inch, the finer the thread. Coarse threaded fasteners have fewer threads per inch than fine threaded fasteners because coarse threads are farther apart. Unified inch coarse series (UNC, Unified National Coarse) threads are largely standard Unified inch fine (UNF, Unified National Fine) may be available too. So, officially, some bolts are really screws, like lag, shoulder and stove bolts. Also, stove bolts are often tightened and released by turning their head. Common bolts are listed in Table 1, or click on a type above for detailed information.īy definition, "A Bolt is a headed and externally threaded mechanical device designed for insertion through holes in assembled parts to mate with a nut and is normally intended to be tightened or released by turning that nut." There are exceptions, like anchor bolts, which are cast in concrete. Others, like carriage and elevator bolts, do not have diminutive equivalents. Some have similar, smaller screw counterparts-lag bolts are heavy-duty wood screws, for example. Depending on the type, uses include fastening wood to wood, wood to metal, metal to metal, and objects to wood and metal. ![]() Click on a BOLT type above to continue shopping… BOLTSīolts are generally considered to be larger than screws and are used in a wide variety of applications especially where load-carrying capacity is a requirement. 1/27/2024 0 Comments Roger clinton jail![]() ![]() Postscript: Roger Clinton was arrested for DUI in Redondo Beach, CA on June 5. So what do you do when you don't get a chance to try a wine before you buy it? Take a leap of faith, yes, but you can still take an educated guess! 1. That's when you get to go to the liquor store and be intimidated once more, this time by the variety of selection you'll have. You can, of course, continue going to wineries and buying your bottles there, but you'll still want to try other styles and brands. Photo by Sigmund on UnsplashOkay, so now that you've had a crash course of going to wineries, you're hooked! Part II of IV: What to buy at the liquor store What is important is that YOU find a wine YOU like! (It always feels cool to be able to say that you picked it out!) That being said, sometimes price does NOT indicate the quality of a wine! I love some $100 wines, but I love some of my $10 wines just as much. Plus, you can share a bottle that you picked yourself from the winery with your friends and family. It's cheaper to buy a local wine at the winery itself because you don't have to pay the up-charge a liquor store would charge so they can make a profit. Go with friends! That's just because it's more fun! And a lot or wineries will have an amazing atmosphere, especially if the tasting room is on the property where the grapes are grown. What another person hates, you might love and vice versa! 3. NOTE: It is important to know that just because a winery may have a reputation for making good sweet reds or good dry whites does not mean they don't have good wines in general. The winery where I work currently has a strong showing of sweet wines, whereas some of the other wineries in the neighboring county have a better dry wine production. ![]() I live in Maryland, and my state has the wonderful nickname of "America in miniature." We have a lot of little microclimates, which change what kind of grapes work best in what region. Part of the reason I suggested you contemplate what kind of wine drinker you might be is because based on what your taste profile may be, you will want to start off with a winery that will match your palate. ![]() Not sure about about either? Most wineries offer middle-of-the-road wine styles that may be a little sweet, but not too dry either. Not a fan of sugar? They'll set up dry tasting. But you can probably narrow down what kind of flight you would want to try if you know what kind of drinks you like: do you have a sweet tooth? Are you more of a dirty martini kind of person? If you like sweet drinks, tell your server that. But Alexis, isn't the point of going to a winery to experience new wines? Well, yes. If you haven't ever been to a winery, and the most experience you have drinking it is at parties or Grandma's for holiday dinner, you should start your wine journey by figuring out what kind of wine you *might* gravitate to. Figure out what kind of wine drinker you might be. Part I of IV: advice for when you first start going out to wineries.ġ. This is also the time when there are so many desserts that are so yummy. You get to have a wonderful home-cooked meal and gather around the table with friends and family. You get to fill up and eat more than you ever had. Laughter is in the air, and so is a good time. You create more memories as you reminisce on the old ones. The conversations are always funny and entertaining. Nothing honestly beats spending quality time with your family and friends. Instead of a case that you snap the iPad Pro into, it's designed so you can simply plop the iPad Pro onto the mount magnetically. It is adjustable up to that degree, but not past it. This joint locks into position at a 30-degree angle. There is a single bendable joint about a quarter of the way up from the bottom. It uses the same silicon exterior material and the same soft microfiber lining. For my 11-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard review, I examined just how well it works.Īs far as material and general fit and feel, it's very similar to the folio part of the Smart Keyboard Folio. The folio part of the keyboard case, the magnetic backing that the iPad Pro sticks to, is where most of the unique design aspect comes into play. Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro side view (Image credit: IMore) 11-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard: Magnetic personality is strong It is no reflection on the Magic Keyboard case. This is just a general observation on an 11-inch computing setup. It gets uncomfortable after a couple of hours of straight typing. I can't keep my arms in any sort of ergonomic position. This has nothing to do with the keyboard itself and more to do with the fact that an 11-inch "laptop" is a little too small to be a daily use, 8-hours per day computer. The overall setup, however, is a little too small. There is plenty of wrist pad room for me to rest my palms next to the trackpad without accidentally clicking it. The keys don't feel cramped into the small space at all. There is enough room between keys to make for comfortable travel. How well does this keyboard size work with the 11-inch iPad Pro? Much better than I would have imagined. There isn't as much of a clickety-clackity experience. They're much tighter on the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. They sort of wiggle when you move your finger around on the keyboard. On the iMac/Mac's Magic Keyboard, keys are loose. It's almost unnoticeable, but you can feel the curve if you run your finger across the keys. The keys have just the slightest bit of a concave curve. They aren't sharp like the iMac's Magic Keyboard, but also not as soft as the Smart Keyboard for iPad. But the click is less clicky and more thumpy when you type. There is plenty of springiness and bounce. I don't mean that they are mushy like the Smart Keyboard for iPad. Here's how I'd describe the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro It's like the Magic Keyboard for the iMac, but with a cloth under the keys. They are "keyboard agnostic." Others have very strong opinions about what makes a good keyboard, and the slightest changes to tactility and feedback have a huge effect. Keyboards are definitely a personal experience, especially if you like mechanical keyboards. It does not store any personal data. The keyboard of the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (Image credit: IMore)Īs part of my 11-inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard review, my first question was, is the keyboard all it's cracked up to be?
